But the fuel has to get from the tank to the carburettors without losing any along the way!

And that's where the fuel tap comes in! If it works properly, that is.

Because, as well as stinking up your garage, a leaky petrol tap can at best damage the paintwork on your engine, and at worst cause the engine to misfire, or even leak into the exhaust system, with all the consequences you can imagine!
